STORIES OF HOPE

AMARA

7

AGED:
LOCATION:

Window Rock, Arizona, USA

For as long as anyone can remember, Amara has loved to dance. Whether it was twirling around her family’s living room or stomping her feet to the beat of a drum at local gatherings, this 7-year-old from Window Rock, Arizona, seemed born to move.

But opportunities to develop her talent were hard to come by. Her family, proud members of the Diné (Navajo) Nation, couldn’t afford formal classes, and transportation to the nearest dance school was a challenge. That’s where the Rising Spirits Initiative stepped in.

Through the program, Amara joined weekly dance classes that opened up a whole new world for her. She’s learning ballet and modern techniques while also exploring traditional Navajo dances that connect her to her roots. The studio provided her with everything she needed - dance shoes, leotards, and even rides to class.

Now, Amara lights up every room she dances in, whether it’s a studio recital or a community event. Her parents say she’s more confident than ever, and they couldn’t be prouder. For Amara, dancing is more than movement - it’s her way of telling stories, sharing joy, and celebrating who she is.
